WHERE NATURE MEETS SEA

Halkidiki Unveiled

Emerald beaches, dense pine forests, crystal clear waters, white sand, hidden coves, and small settlements on the sea with fish taverns, cafes, and beach bars in coves. These are some of the images that emerge when one thinks of this coastal region, the tripod pearl of Northern Greece.

Welcome to Halkidiki! A destination to fall in love.

Situated at the same latitude as southern Italy, Valencia and Mallorca, it has a mild climate with little rainfall and is famous for its sunshine. The temperature remains high from May to October, with an average temperature in July and August of 26°C.

Known since antiquity as the creation of the battles between the Olympian Gods and the Titans, the three peninsulas of Kassandra, Sithonia and Athos, each with its own identity, contribute to the variety of experiences the region offers.

THE MANY FACES OF HALKIDIKI

From Beaches to Mountains

The westernmost part of Kassandra is teeming with cosmopolitan life, impressive beaches, entertainment centers, and music festivals. Visitors can also enjoy thermal baths in the village of Agia Paraskevi.

The middle leg, the peninsula of Sithonia, known for its natural beauty and quiet atmosphere, offers endless beaches and coves with dreamy waters such as Kavourotrypes and Lagonisi, seaside settlements such as Vourvourou with the possibility for a variety of water activities as well as landscapes with pine forests that reach up to the sea level.

EXPLORING THE LEGACY AND LANDSCAPES

Athos & Aristotle

Finally, the peninsula of Athos, on the easternmost side of Halkidiki, is the rockiest, with an altitude of up to 2,000 meters. This is the site of Mount Athos's spiritual and cultural refuge, accessible only to men. UNESCO protects this area as a World Heritage Site, and the surrounding natural area is protected by the European NATURA 2000 Network.

In the hinterland of Halkidiki, among other places, we find the area of Stagira, the birthplace of the famous philosopher Aristotle, as well as Aristotle's Park, which has interactive instruments (e.g., prism, sundial, compass, etc.) that operate according to the laws of nature described in his works. For lovers of hiking and cycling in nature, among the multitude of paths, there is the so-called Aristotle's Path that starts from ancient Stagira and heads towards Olympiada, crossing a forest of oaks, beech and chestnut trees on the slopes of Mount Stratonius.

The experience of gastronomic delights with excellent meats and cheeses, quinces, tomatoes, peaches, pears, almonds, and pistachios. Mount Holomontas (a large part of which is protected by Natura 2000) hides an unexpected gastronomic treasure near Taxiarchis: truffles and wild mushrooms (porcini, cepes, morels, chanterelles, etc.), which thrive in the alpine microclimate. At the end of June, the Sardine Festival is held in Nea Moudania, while at the end of July, the olive tree is celebrated in Olynthos.
